Keyboards

The keyboard is an important piece of hardware that allows for command and information input to the computer. The keyboard is an offshoot of the early typewriter, which was invented and patented in 1868. Since then, many inventors, scientists, and companies have worked to improve the keyboard to what it is today. Today, there are numerous different keyboard types that can be used to allow for better functionality and convenience on your computer. This article will enumerate and briefly discuss the different kinds of keyboard available on the market.

Keyboard Types

There are basically three keyboard types available on the market. The first is the common wired keyboard, which connects directly to the computer through a wire. Secondly, there is the wireless keyboard that allows for freedom of movement. The third type of keyboard is the virtual keyboard. These come in two forms, laser keyboards (project laser light keyboards onto a surface for typing), and on-screen virtual keyboards (virtual keyboards that appear on the computer monitor).

Keyboard Styles and Features

There are numerous different keyboard styles that offer different features for specialised use. The first is the multimedia keyboard. These have extra buttons for volume and track controls for the playback of multimedia files. The gaming keyboard has special features commonly used by gamers. Such features include painted keys and programmable buttons. Roll-up keyboards are made out of special materials that allow for users to roll up their keyboards. These types of keyboard are usually spill resistant, because of the rubber materials they are made of. One of the latest innovations in the keyboard industry is the use of LED (light-emitting diodes) to illuminate keys for use in dim or dark conditions.
