HAVING played keyboards for Silverchair in the past and co-written Straight Lines (the band's first single from their latest album Young Modern) The Presets' frontman Julian Hamilton can't wait to hear Silverchair live and catch up with the lads at Saturday's Groovin' the Moo festival at Maitland Showground.

"I can't wait to see them again, it's been so long," Hamilton said.

"I was originally hired to play with them, then we became friends and then we started making music together.

"It's a real thrill to see them going so well."

The Presets have been spending much of their time overseas touring, and while they're not exactly shy, retiring types some of their fans may not know what they look like up close due to their penchant for wearing masks in their photographs.

"We don't wear them on stage anymore," Hamilton laughed.

"The masks started just before we performed a DJ set at Splendour in the Grass one year while we were waiting for our girlfriends to arrive and we found this magic store which had all of these masks.

"We ended up wearing them for the set and it was so much fun, we could dance around and just be uninhibited idiots hiding behind these masks."

Silverchair and The Presets will be joined at the sold-out festival on Saturday by the likes of The Black Keys, Sneaky Sound System and You Am I.
